Synopsis: Thor spends some time in the blast furnaces of Pittsburgh repairing his uru hammer, impressing the steelmen there. Afterwards, he heads back to Asgard with his Norn Stones safely tucked into a small pouch, but as he leaps up into the sky, one tiny stone falls out to the ground!
Back in Asgard, Odin congratulates Thor on his win over Loki in the trial of the gods. Meanwhile, Loki toils in the service of Ularic, but decides enough is enough. He gasses Ularic into a state of sleep and then hides him in a chamber that he lowers down into the ground. It is time for Loki to strike again!
Thor heads back to Earth to check in on his life as Dr. Don Blake and finds his office deserted and Jane Foster nowhere to be found! Collectors are arriving to collect on unpaid bills and former patients stroll by Blake on their way to new doctors. Don Blake is so flummoxed by the disarray of his mortal life that he accidentally turns himself back into Thor! He heads to the Avengers Mansion to get help from his compatriots, but he meets Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye - who he does not know and also does not seem to like - and heads away frustrated, unable to determine what has happened to Jane and if perhaps she has finally deserted him. At that very moment, though, Jane Foster seems to be in duress in the captivity of an unknown figure at some remote location....
As for Loki, he is seeking a source of energy floating out in the free expanse of space. He finds it, locks in on it and pulls it back to Earth in a "translucent spheroid". While Thor is lost in thought about how to reach Jane, the spheroid lands on Earth and from inside bursts one of Thor's greatest foes - Crusher Creel, the Absorbing Man!
